Add veteran Stan Wawrinka to the long list of recognizable tennis stars set to be sidelined from competitive action through the end of March.
On Thursday, the three-time Grand Slam winner announced that he has undergone a procedure to correct an injury in his left foot and will be out "for a few weeks" before he returns to practice:

Wawrinka, who turns 36 on Sunday, is currently No. 21 in the FedEx ATP Rankings coming off a handful of forgettable performances. He fell in the second round at the Australian Open last month and suffered early defeats at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.
Former world No. 1 Andy Murray received a wildcard entry into the Miami Open that's running from this past Monday through April 4 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens but withdrew from the competition due to what he referred to as a "freak" groin injury he suffered preparing for the tournament. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams are among other big names not playing in Miami at the start of spring this year.
