Tennis star Serena Williams says she will not compete at Tokyo Olympics

Tennis star Serena Williams says she will not be competing in this summer's Tokyo Olympics. 

The 39-year-old, who has won four gold medals, said she decided not to go to Tokyo for several reasons. 

"There's a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision," she said, according to ESPN's Simon Cambers. "I don't really want to — I don't feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry.

"I have not thought about it. In the past, [the Olympics] has been a wonderful place for me. I really haven't thought about it, so I'm going to keep not thinking about it."

Williams won gold in the London Games, beating Maria Sharapova in the final. She also won doubles in Sydney in 2000, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 with her sister Venus Williams. 

Although she's not going to the Olympics, Williams is competing at Wimbledon, where she'll be looking for her eighth title and a record-tying 24th Grand Slam title. 

Williams is the sixth seed at Wimbledon and has solid odds to win the tournament with Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep not participating due to various reasons.
