Italy’s Jasmine Paolini has announced changes in the coaching staff after a disappointing Wimbledon 2025 campaign. The 29-year-old suffered a shocking defeat in the second round of the third Grand Slam of the year to Kamilla Rakhimova with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
It was the third consecutive Grand Slam this year where Paolini failed to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. At the Australian Open, she suffered a defeat in the third round after losing to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina. At Roland Garros, Paolini’s journey ended in the fourth round, where once again, she came second-best against Svitolina.
Overall, it was Paolini’s 11th defeat in 38 matches this year. Those performances led Paolini to make a drastic change in her coaching staff. Paolini, in a social media post, announced her decision to fire her coach, Marc Lopez.
"We had some great results together. Especially in Rome and Paris," she wrote. "I appreciate all the hard work and energy Marc gave every day. Now that this part of the season is over, I've decided to make a change. I've learned a lot and made good progress. And now I'm taking the time to reflect on what the next step will be. Thank you again, Marc, for everything."
Paolini produced some good results while working with Lopez, who was a member of the coaching staff of the former world number one, Spain’s Rafael Nadal. Winning the WTA 1000 event, the Italian Open, and lifting the French Open women’s doubles title were the highlights of Paolini’s time working with Lopez.
