Coached by former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic will surely give whoever is coached by him and edge at the grass court major but in the case of Stefanos Tsitsipas that is not the case it seems.
Albeit for good reason in this case as he has been jinxed as such also having a crippling back injury like his partner Paula Badosa who will play this afternoon against Katie Boulter on Centre Court.
But Tsitsipas would've been hoping that the work with Ivanisevic which was timed to begin for Wimbledon would pay dividends but it was another unfortunate situation for him as he went two sets down to French qualifier Valentin Royer.
He then was forced to retire at the start of the third set. Those from the outside looking in would think it was a disasterclass from Tsitsipas but it made sense when it was the back injury that decided to reoccur.
He was superb earlier in the season winning Dubai and performing great at Indian Wells with his new racquet. He remarked earlier in the week that he should've hired him a lot sooner but it seems that he will have to hold onto the experiment now going into the US swing.
“It could have definitely happened earlier, to be honest. But I learned from those things. Okay, yes, it could have happened then, but it happened now, so it doesn't matter anymore.
“I could have benefited having Goran maybe three, four years ago. And he could have taught me the valuable things that I'm learning today, maybe a little bit earlier. But that thing doesn't matter. I'm just hypothesising right now.
