The young prospect who Jannik Sinner wouldn’t like facing, according to David Law

Jannik Sinner has been put on notice about a rising star on the ATP Tour, who could soon make his mark at the top of the sport.

Many tennis fans would welcome this change, as the duopoly that has formed at the top of the men’s game is starting to wear a little thin.

Between Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, they have claimed every Grand Slam title in that span, with each of the last two finals featuring both players.

While their matchups are always a must-watch, it would be refreshing to see more depth across the ATP Tour.

The good news is there is a promising group of young players working their way up, all looking to knock Sinner off his perch.

Jannik Sinner warned about Hamad Medjedovic as future challenger

One of those names is a player who recently faced Alcaraz at the Cincinnati Open, falling 6-4, 6-4 in a match that was more competitive than the scoreline suggests.

There is growing belief around Hamad Medjedovic, with David Law from The Tennis Podcast backing him to make serious strides if he can iron out a few rough edges.

Law said: “Yeah, when I spoke to Medjedovic that time, he did voice his frustration about not having been able to translate what is clear potential and clear form in pockets into a sustainable ranking that just has you in all the tournaments easily and so forth.

“But I do think he is one of the guys that has real threats, and like, he’s one I would name as a guy that Sinner wouldn’t necessarily love to come up against because he has point-ending power.

“In a one-off match, he backs himself to beat anybody. And it’s the piecing together of the rest of his career that’s been more of a problem.

Hamad Medjedovic may be about to enter the big time

Medjedovic is still chasing his first ATP title, but the young Serbian’s potential is obvious, especially after what was his best Grand Slam run so far. People have been talking about him for a while now.

His win at the 2023 Next Gen Finals, where he beat Arthur Fils in the final, only added to that growing reputation.

Medjedovic seems to be close to his breakthrough moment, having reached two ATP 250 finals. Moreover, the 22-year-old prospect is enjoying a strong season with wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and Brandon Nakashima.

With a powerful game built around a big serve, Medjedovic looks set to become a genuine threat in the years ahead.
