'Things are going very well,' Novak Djokovic gears up for the Geneve Open as he looks to get wins under his belt

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has not been in the best of form all season. With a couple of semi-final runs and early losses, the Serbian is slowly losing his grip as World No. 1. Interestingly enough, for a change, the Serbian chose to play an ATP 250 tournament ahead of the French Open.

Usually, players prefer to prepare well in advance for the top of the crowd. In a recent interview with the Geneva Press, the Serbian revealed his reason for playing in the tournament. However, many were worried about the risky decisions of Djokovic.

In the press meeting, the Serbian said that he was looking to get some wins under his belt and get the momentum going for the upcoming French Open, which is right after the 250.

I am here to win matches and have great moments with the public and my family.  Said Djokovic in the interview with Blick

Furthermore, he claimed to have recovered from a bottle incident that happened at the Italian Open. While the Serbian was signing a few souvenirs for the fans, a metal bottle fell on his head. In a lot of pain, the Serbian was taken out of the stadium. As a result of this, he lost early in his Italian Open match.

Novak Djokovic trains with Casper Ruud ahead of his first match in the Geneva Open

Serbian ace Novak Djokovic will lead the ATP 250 Geneva Open as World No. 1 and is accompanied by Casper Ruud as one of the top players. The two played each other at the Monte Carlo semi-finals, where the Norwegian beat Djokovic in the semi-finals.

In a recent press conference, the Serbian stated that there is no better practice for him than practice matches. He called Ruud to play a practice match with him as training.

I feel good physically. There is no better training for me than playing matches at the moment.  Said Djokovic in the interview with Blick

After a forgetful 2024 so far, the Serbian hopes to turn the tide and get some fruitful results ahead of his title defense in Paris. Hopefully, the Serbian readies up for the French Open like he wanted to and is ready to make a comeback on Tour.

With minimal points left to defend, Djokovic has to land in the finals of the French Open or risk losing his rank. Jannik Sinner will then go ahead of Djokovic to reach his career-best ranking.
