Tennis star Ben Shelton is playing some of the best tennis of his career, and the American revealed his two major goals for the rest of the 2025 ATP season.

The Atlanta native matched his best Grand Slam result when he reached the semifinals at the Australian Open at the start of the season. Subsequently, he would reach his first final of the year in Munich, before progressing to the quarterfinals at the Wimbledon Championships, where he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

During arguably his best season on Tour, the 22-year old climbed to a career-high ranking of World No.7 in July. With the North American hard court season in full swing, Shelton hopes to improve upon his results this year.

Seeded fourth at the ongoing Canadian Open, Shelton defeated French veteran Adrian Mannarino to advance to the thrid round. The American will face compatriot Brandon Nakashima for a spot in the round of 16.

Shelton hopes to end the year on a high note

With more than half of the season completed, Shelton revealed what he hopes to achieve during the rest of the year. The former US Open semifinalist stated he hoped to replicate his performance at Flushing Meadows, possibly going further than he did in 2023. Additionally, Shelton admitted he would like to qualify for the year-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

"New York [The US Open] is the one that’s marked on my calendar every year, but especially this year in 2025," said Shelton after his win over Mannarino. “Turin is a big goal for me. I’ve never really, at this point of the year, been in a position where I’ve given myself a chance to make it there.
“But I think that’s kind of, you know, the next step for me, solidifying myself up here at the top, and that’s a big goal as I look towards the end of the year. I’d say those are two for me, but those are a little bit more in the back of my mind compared to the on-court everyday stuff that I’m trying to improve on."
