The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has unveiled plans for an unprecedented $800 million renovation of the US Open facilities, with a comprehensive modernization of the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium as its centerpiece.
The announcement took place on May 19, 2025 and it represents the largest single investment in US Open history and aims to transform the venue for the next two-and-a-half decades.
Arthur Ashe Stadium, built over 25 years ago, will undergo a complete 'top-to-bottom' modernization that includes several significant upgrades. The renovation will feature a new grand entrance, modernized concourses and restrooms, two new dedicated luxury suite levels, and new club and restaurant areas.
But it doesn't stop there, because this major project will be adding 2000 additional seats in the courtside-level bowl, enhancing the capacity of the already world's largest tennis stadium.
"This project allows us to preserve the premier venue in tennis- Arthur Ashe Stadium. which was built over twenty five years ago, and to update it in a manner that will prepare it for the next quarter-century," stated Lew Sherr, CEO and Executive Director of the USTA.
In addition to the stadium renovations, the USTA will also construct a new $250 million state-of-the-art Player Performance Center. This new facility will feature redesigned locker rooms, offering a "spa-like experience", expanded indoor and outdoor training areas, upgraded dining facilities for players and a new player courtyard and entrance. Everything being done to give the nearly 2800 players and team members who participate in the US Open year after year the best experience possible.
This ambitious renovation will be completed in three phases, with the final work finished in time for the 2027 US Open. The USTA has emphasized that construction will be carefully planned so that both play and fan access remain unaffected during this years and next year edition of the tournament.
The $800 million project will be entirely self-funded by the USTA without any public funds. The US Open serves as a major economic driver for New York State, generating an estimated $1.2 billion in annual economic benefits.
