Venus Williams Finally Shuts Down Retirement Rumors Ahead of French Open

Venus Williams, who recently made an appearance at the Met Gala, addressed the question of retirement in her recent interview with TNT.

Venus recently announced that she would be joining TNT’s commentary crew, which sparked rumors amongst fans that maybe she had already retired from tennis. However, Venus denied those claims and said she is not done with playing yet.

“While I haven’t retired and am still open to returning to the court when the time feels right, commentating allows me to stay immersed in the sport without the physical demands of competition,” said Venus addressing the retirement question.

These words come as a pleasant surprise for her fans who would love to see her play one last time in a competitive tournament and take the center stage. While she has definitely opted out of the French open, Venus could make a comeback on grass where she has won multiple titles both in singles and doubles.

Fans also speculate that she might bring Serena out of retirement for a doubles cameo before she retires.

“This decision wasn’t about stepping away from playing but about embracing a new way to contribute to the sport that’s shaped me. Tennis has given me so much, and now I have the chance to give back by telling its stories, celebrating its stars, and sharing its magic,” she added.

“Joining TNT’s team, alongside legends like Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Chris Evert, and others, is an honor,” said Williams.

“Their expertise and passion for tennis are unmatched, and I’m thrilled to learn from them as I step into this new role. Commentating is uncharted territory for me, but I’m approaching it with the same mindset.”

“So, to the fans tuning in from May 25 to June 8, get ready for an unforgettable tournament. I’ll be there, not with a racket, but with a headset, ready to share my love for this game. Let’s make it a Grand Slam to remember,” she added.

While it will be exciting to hear her from the commentary box for the first time, Venus’s words about not retiring yet will keep the fans guessing as to where and when she decides to hang up her boots.
