America’s Amanda Anisimova was involved in an interesting on-court moment during the Wimbledon fourth-round clash. The 23-year-old defeated the Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova in the round of 16 with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 on Sunday.
During that match, when Anisimova was about to serve, she had to stop after hearing the noise of someone opening the champagne bottle. That forced the chair umpire to ask the spectators to avoid doing that. “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. If you can avoid opening bottles of champagne when the players are about to serve,” said the chair umpire.
That request generated an interesting response from the commentators. “Oh com’on. Its warm,” said one commentator. “It’s the most Wimbledon warning you have ever heard,” said the other one. During the contest, Anisimova converted five break points, two more than her opponent. She registered 36 winners, seven more than Noskova. Overall, Anisimova won 99 points, nine more than her rival on the day.
aIt will be Anisimova’s second appearance in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. In 2022, she featured in the last-eight contest of the third Grand Slam of the year, where she lost to former world number one Simona Halep in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Anisimova will next face Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She secured her spot in the last eight of the mega-event after beating Britain’s Sonay Kartal in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. It will be the fourth meeting between the two players in professional tennis. In the previous three meetings, Anisimova had a clear advantage as she won all three of them.
