Carlos Alcaraz had a dream Sunday, securing his 5th Grand Slam title against Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard mounted a historic comeback, winning in five sets and successfully defending his French Open title – which he had also won in 2024.
However, not everything was perfect for Alcaraz, especially after learning about his national team Spain's defeat in the Nations League. Just minutes after Alcaraz lifted the trophy, the Nations League final between Spain and Portugal was being played, and 'Carlitos' is a well-known football fanatic.
Amidst celebrations and recovery work, he missed his team's match. A video circulating on social media shows the moment Alcaraz asks – apparently members of his team – about Spain's result.
"Penalty shootout?" Alcaraz asked.
"No, they lost (Spain). Morata missed."
"No, no man..." 'Carlitos' said, clutching his head.
"Yes, yes... Spain lost, and Morata missed," they are heard responding.
"Oh, for (expletive) sake, man..." reacted the five-time Grand Slam champion, clearly disappointed.
