Long touted as one of the future stars of the ATP circuit, Holger Rune showcased his potential by defeating favorite and local hero Carlos Alcaraz to lift the title at the 2025 Barcelona Open.
The 21-year old looked phenomenal during his run in Barcelona, dropping only one set en route to the final. Facing Alcaraz and the partisan fans, Rune fearlessly overcame his Spanish opponent, recording a 7-6(6) 6-2 victory to win the second biggest title of his career.
As is commonplace every year, the Barcelona champion must immediately jump into a swimming pool at the facility in celebration. Rune obliged, accompanied by the ball kids and was later asked to rate his technique when later shown the video clip.
"Honestly I think the explosivity in the legs are pretty good," began Rune with a smile. "The form of the jump, we can debate that. I didn't think much about the technique at that moment. It's not bad, let's give it a solid 8. Eight is high but it's good."
