Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner won their maiden women’s and men’s singles Wimbledon championships. The duo then traded their white kits for some very sharp cocktail wear during the Wimbledon Champions Dinner on Sunday (July 13). They then continued with the tradition by dancing together on the stage.
Swiatek was seeded eighth at the competition and didn’t play on the Center Court until the quarter-finals. The former World No.1 was not even among the favorites to win the title as she had historically done poorly on the grass court. But after reaching the final of the Bad Homburg Open, she was confident she could surprise the tennis world.
She produced a scintillating performance to claim the women’s singles at the All England Club. The Polish star needed just 57 minutes to beat Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in the final and became the first player from her country to claim the prestigious title. She also now has a 6-0 Grand Slam final win.
On the other hand, Sinner arrived at Wimbledon after failing to defend the Terra Wortmann Open in June. The World No.1 had also never reached the final of the Championship. But, that didn’t count in the end as he defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and then came from behind to beat double defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.
The Italian extended his Grand Slam tally to four matches, while Swiatek has six. As is traditional at Wimbledon, the two champions must feature at a special dinner marking the end of the Grand Slam tournament. Both stars dressed best for the occasion with Swiatek wearing a glamorous lilac gown by Stella McCartney, while Sinner wore a custom dark suit from Gucci. They then took to the stage at one time during the dinner and dances awkwardly together to the applause and cheers of the attendees.

However, Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon comes just 10 weeks after returning from his three-month suspension for twice testing positive for clostebol. The 23-year-old was heavily criticized during that period as some former and current players believe that the system treated him specially because of his ranking.
Also, Swiatek was suspended last year for testing positive for trimetazidine. She served only a one-month suspension for doping. However, when she did return to tour she failed to find her former rhythm. It took until the grass court season for her to reach her first tour-level final before going on to win Wimbledon.
Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final just over a month ago. The Italian star was two sets up in the match before the Spaniard pulled an extraordinary comeback to claim the title. The defeat was heartbreaking for Sinner as he was hoping to claim his first Roland Garros.
He had to wait until the Wimbledon Championship to earn his revenge against Alcaraz. After beating the 22-year-old, he revealed to Tennis Channel that he trained like never before for the Wimbledon Championship:
Many things went through my mind when winning the title, such as how challenging the last months have been. Seeing my parents excited and enjoying it means a lot to me, it’s the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. I came here eager to give my best and the week before the tournament, I trained like I had never done before, I believe they were the best practice sessions of my life. That it paid off is a dream come true.

Sinner claimed four titles in the second half of the 2024 season, which means he will have to defend them in the second half of this year. Meanwhile, Alcaraz will just have one title to defend until the end of the year.
