Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek shared a dance during Wimbledon’s Champions’ Dinner held at the Raffles Hotel in Central London after their maiden triumph in the grass-court Major. Swiatek wrapped up the women’s singles final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova.

The following day, Sinner became the first Italian player to emerge victorious at SW19 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz. Swiatek and Sinner then ended their memorable weekend by dancing together, around 1 a.m. on Monday.

When Sinner was asked about the dance at the press conference following his win, he called it “a problem. I’m not really good at dancing“. Swiatek awkwardly held her head when asked about the dance. But when during the Champions’ Dance, the players were told they didn’t have to dance, the Pole insisted that they must in order to keep the tradition going.

Yes, I mean, we were there and in the beginning, they told us that it was quite late that we don’t have to do it. And then Iga told me, ‘No, no, let’s do it.’ I was like, ‘Okay’. I mean, it’s tradition. So, it’s good to make that happen and yeah, it was nice to share this moment now with Iga and it’s yeah, a beautiful moment.

Jannik Sinner told BBC

The 23-year-old now needs only the French Open to complete the Career Grand Slam. Last month, Alcaraz denied him the win by saving three championship points. For Sinner, winning Wimbledon was the “most special moment” of his career and he celebrated it by drinking a lot of Champagne.

We were drinking quite a lot [before the dinner party]. So, it’s a bit turning, the head, but it’s all good. It’s very special to have my family here and the whole team. It’s also special to see Iga here with family and team. It’s amazing. My drink of choice tonight? Champagne.

Jannik Sinner said during his interview at the Champions’ Dinner

It was Sinner’s fifth win over the five-time Grand Slam champion in their 13th meeting. Before Wimbledon, the World No.1 had lost five consecutive matches to the Spaniard, including twice this season.

Alcaraz was bidding to become the fifth man in the Open Era to win three Wimbledon titles on the trot. Had he won, he would have become the second man after Bjorn Borg to win both Wimbledon and the French Open in consecutive seasons.

Alcaraz had reached his seventh final of the season at Wimbledon and was chasing his sixth title. Sinner, on the other hand, has now lifted two titles- both Grand Slam ones.

Karolina Pliskova claims Aryna Sabalenka would have defeated Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final

Amanda Anisnomova scheduled the clash with Iga Swiatek in the final after overcoming World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal, denying her a chance to win her first grass-court title. Had the Belarusian defeated Anisimova, she would have scheduled a blockbuster clash with the now six-time Grand Slam champion.

If Swiatek had faced Sabalenka, the tennis world would have expected nothing less than a tight encounter. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist Karolina Pliskova shared her take on who would’ve won the final between Swiatek and Sabalenka.

I think Sabalenka would have beaten Iga Swiatek in the final.

Karolina Pliskova said on Czech Rakety podcast

At Wimbledon, Swiatek reached her second final on grass. Before arriving in London, she lost the Bad Hamburg Open final to Jessica Pegula. Wimbledon was the 24-year-old’s first title of the season. It was also her first title since her Roland Garros win last year.

Following a few days off, Swiatek will be shifting her focus to the North American hard-court swing. Last year, she failed to reach a final there. Because of her Wimbledon win, Swiatek will be the heavy favorite to win the US Open, which she had lifted in 2022.
