Watch: Novak Djokovic orchestrates the booing, provokes the Monte Carlo crowd to keep it going as he breaks the serve

Novak Djokovic is on the right track at the Monte Carlo Masters. After defeating Roman Safiullin in his first match of the tournament in the round of 32, he continued that performance in his round of 16 match against Lorenzo Musetti as well. The Serb emerged victorious against the Italian as he won the match 7-5, 6-3, in straight sets.

However, that match was not without controversies. Djokovic was unhappy about a particular line call, and even Hawkeye showed that Musetti’s shot was clearly out.

It’s so clear. It’s like this.

Novak Djokovic said while gesturing with his hand.

However, the crowd started to boo him after that. Djokovic, in typical Novak style, orchestrated their boos and asked them to keep it coming. Moments later, he broke serve.

Novak Djokovic had the upper hand in the match against Lorenzo Musetti from the very beginning. He dominated the Italian throughout the entirety of the match. This shows that he has gotten in touch during the clay season already, which was of great necessity.

The Serb’s World No. 1 position is already under threat, with Jannik Sinner rising up the ranks at a fast pace. He has not been able to perform up to the mark in any of the tournaments in 2024 so far.

He got knocked out of the semifinals of the Australian Open by Sinner and from the round of 32 of the Indian Wells by Luca Nardi. Thus, it is extremely important for him to have a good run in the clay season.

Novak Djokovic is all set to face Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic will be facing Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters. The two players have played a total of two matches against each other and have won one each in these head-to-head encounters.

It must be noted that Alex de Minaur recently defeated the Serb in the United Cup and broke his long winning run.

Alex de Minaur has had a pretty good campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters so far. He has defeated Stan Wawrinka, Tallon Griekspoor, and Alexi Popyrin. The fact that Alex de Minaur has defeated Djokovic recently makes things interesting for their upcoming matchup. This is because the Australian indeed has a chance of defeating World No. 1.
