Paula Badosa was forced to withdraw due to injury in her match against China's Xinyu Wang. The Spanish player is once again suffering from physical issues and showed her frustration on-court, hitting her racket against the ground before heading to the locker rooms at the Berlin Ladies Open.

The World No. 10 had been having a great tournament so far, comfortably defeating Eva Lys (6-1, 6-3) and overcoming a tough challenge against Emma Navarro (7-6, 6-3). The Spaniard was playing in the quarterfinals against qualifier Xinyu Wang — who had successively eliminated Daria Kasatkina and Coco Gauff.

Badosa shows on-court frustration

However, Badosa was barely able to complete one set, as physical discomfort became evident. The former World No. 2 started with a break disadvantage that put Wang up 2-0. Badosa then managed to defend her service game only once, before a collapse where she won just one of the next 15 points.

The Chinese player closed out the set 6-1, and Badosa requested a medical time-out. Upon her return to the court after a few minutes, Wang started the second set impeccably with a 40-0 lead on her serve. However, Badosa then decided she could not continue playing and retired due to physical discomfort, raising concerns ahead of Wimbledon, which is just 10 days away.

The Spaniard showed her full frustration after shaking hands with her opponent at the net, hitting her racket against the ground up to four times and throwing it away. Badosa quickly left the court, and Wang timidly greeted the crowd after advancing to the semifinals in Berlin.

The Chinese player is guaranteed to climb 10 positions to World No. 39 and is waiting to find out her opponent between Amanda Anisimova and Liudmila Samsonova. On the other hand, Badosa is entered for the Bad Homburg Open next week, but her participation there is now doubtful. The Spaniard's spot in the Top 10 is at risk if Rybakina manages to win the Berlin title.
