'We'll see how he feels': Carlos Alcaraz's Queen's Club participation in doubt

Carlos Alcaraz's participation in the Queen's Club Championships is reportedly in doubt, according to a recent statement from his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. The Spanish coach cast doubt on whether "Carlitos" would play the tournament leading up to Wimbledon, where Alcaraz is the defending champion.

Alcaraz took a few days off in Ibiza after successfully defending his Roland Garros title and lifting his fifth Grand Slam trophy. The 22-year-old star might adjust his schedule depending on "how he feels physically and mentally."

In his short career, Alcaraz boasts an incredible 24-3 record on grass courts (89%). The Spaniard has won three grass-court titles in just three seasons: the Queen's Club Championships in 2024 and Wimbledon in both 2023 and 2024.

A year ago, he was the defending champion at Queen's but fell to Jack Draper in the round of 16, which marks his only loss on the surface in the last two seasons. As in previous years, Alcaraz has the ATP 500 tournament in London scheduled as his sole pre-Wimbledon event to adapt to grass.

In a recent interview, Juan Carlos Ferrero expressed uncertainty about Carlitos's presence at Queen's Club this year. "The plan is to play, but we'll make a final decision in a few days. We talked about it mid-tournament, and Carlos told us he was looking forward to going," Ferrero claimed.

The former French Open champion stated they would conduct some tests once the world No. 2 returns to training after a few days of rest. "After these days of rest, on Thursday or Friday, we'll do a test to see how he feels physically and mentally. (...) We're going to Wimbledon with great enthusiasm; Carlos loves playing there."

Alcaraz could arrive at Wimbledon without any prior tournaments, a strategy Novak Djokovic has employed multiple times. The two-time Wimbledon defending champion will surely not need much time to adapt to the surface and will arrive at the All England Club as a favorite, aiming for his third consecutive title.
