Roger Federer praised Bill Gates’ tennis ability

In 2017, Gates and Federer joined forces to play doubles at the Key Arena in Seattle, United States to play John Isner and Mike McCready.

Gates admitted he was nervous ahead of the match, but he and Federer ended up winning the sole set 6-4.

Federer was impressed by what he saw from Gates against two players who brushed shoulders with the best players on the ATP Tour at the time.

Speaking after the match, Federer said: “I think he did not miss a first serve. I missed a lot of first serves today, so he did better than me.”

The event also featured a singles match between Isner and Federer, which the Swiss star won in straight sets.

The 2017 edition of Match for Africa raised over $2,000,000, and featured sponsorships from Microsoft, Nike, Starbucks, and Rolex.

Bill Gates’ love for tennis explained

Gates is an avid fan of tennis and even named it as one of his five ‘favourite ways to relax’ when asked by Time Magazine in 2018.

The Microsoft mogul explained: “I have played tennis my whole life. This year, I got to play a match with Roger Federer to help raise money for his foundation.”

The star said he found the experience of playing with Federer stressful, even though they won their match.

Gates added: “I wouldn’t say it was the most relaxing tennis game I’ve ever played, but it was a whole lot of fun.”

Gates appeared at three of the six Match for Africa events, while Federer appeared at every single one.
