Carlos Alcaraz was expected to face some challenges from home favorite Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon. But the Spaniard, for the second time in the tournament, secured the win without dropping a set.

He will now be up against a player who has won two titles on grass this season. It’s Taylor Fritz, who overcame Karen Khachanov in four sets to schedule the clash with Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Taylor Fritz: Match Preview

No player has won more titles on the men’s tour than Carlos Alcaraz this season. He has played six finals, winning five of them. After his Australian Open exit, Alcaraz became a champion of an indoor hard-court tournament for the first time when he beat Alex de Minaur in the Rotterdam Open final.

Alcaraz then lost three tournaments on the trot without reaching the final. These include Indian Wells and Miami Open and Alcaraz entered the clay swing without capturing a title in the Sunshine Double events for the first time since 2021. In Miami, he suffered an opening-round exit. Critics started to question Alcaraz’s work ethic, calling him an inconsistent player.

The critics eventually were silenced when Alcaraz entered the clay swing and ended it with three titles. He reached every final of the tournaments he played (skipped the Madrid Open because of an injury). Alcaraz lost only the Barcelona Open final to Holger Rune, and the three titles he lifted were two Masters 1000s in Monte Carlo and Rome, and the French Open.

In Rome and Paris, he triumphed over his arch-rival, Jannik Sinner, who he could face in the final. Alcaraz came from two sets down to eke out a victory over the three-time Grand Slam champion but not before saving three championship points in the fourth set.

Their match has now become the longest French Open final in the history of tennis. Before Wimbledon, Alcaraz lifted the Queen’s title to win his fourth grass-court event.

Taylor Fritz has lifted two titles this season, both on grass. He went past World No.3 Alexander Zverev in the Stuttgart Open final and doubled the title tally by going past Jenson Brooksby to win the Eastbourne International for the fourth time to become a five-time champion on grass.

Fritz, last year, came close to lifting the US Open and the ATP Finals but ended up losing in the final to Sinner in the finals. He could not produce consistent tennis at the start of the season and before the grass swing, he made it to the semifinal just once, at the Miami Open, which he lost to eventual champion Jakub Mensik.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Taylor Fritz: Match Prediction

While Alcaraz is aiming to complete the Channel Slam for two consecutive seasons, Fritz has not reached the final of Wimbledon yet. He, in fact, will be playing his first semifinal of the grass-court Major.

Even though Fritz has five grass-court titles under his belt, Alcaraz is expected to win the match, given that not only he holds a 2-0 head-to-head lead over the American ace, but he is also trying to defend the Wimbledon title for the second time to become only the fifth man in the Open Era to win three consecutive titles in the grass-court Major.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in four sets.
