'Wimbledon could be the best chance': Novak Djokovic recognises the opportunity to challenge Sinner and Alcaraz

Novak Djokovic addressed the media ahead of Wimbledon 2025, acknowledging that this year’s tournament might be his best opportunity to chase a historic 25th Grand Slam title. The 38-year-old has lost ground in the tennis elite since early 2024, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz dominating the scene and splitting the last six Grand Slam titles between them.

During that period, Djokovic has not reached a single major final — a stark contrast to 2023, when he won three Slams and posted an extraordinary 27–1 record. Although he already holds the all-time record with 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic remains determined to keep adding to his legendary résumé.

The former World No. 1 is also bidding for his 8th Wimbledon crown, which would tie Roger Federer as the tournament’s most successful male player. Djokovic fell just short in the last two editions, losing both finals to Carlos Alcaraz.

Speaking at his pre-tournament press conference, the Serbian star admitted that Wimbledon may give him a better chance than other majors to challenge the current Sinner-Alcaraz dominance.

“I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance, because of the results I had, because of how I feel, how I play in Wimbledon,” said Djokovic, who will face Alexandre Muller in the first round on Tuesday. “Just getting that extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level.”

In his last six Grand Slam appearances, Djokovic has lost to either Sinner or Alcaraz in three, retired twice due to injury, and suffered a surprising defeat to Alexei Popyrin at the last US Open. He currently holds 97 wins at Wimbledon and will look to add more as he fights for one more Grand Slam glory.
