Day 1 of Wimbledon kicks off with a whopping 32 women’s matches–half of the first round. As always, our team here at LWOT will share their thoughts on every single match with you. We split the 32 matches between eight articles. In addition to this articles, the other feature Aryna Sabalenka vs Carson Branstine, Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva, Emma Raducanu vs Mingge Xu, Leylah Fernandez vs Hannah Klugman, Madison Keys vs Elena Gabriela Ruse, Naomi Osaka vs Talia Gibson, and Jasmine Paolini vs Anastasija Sevastova. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Nurein Ahmed, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will win?

Wimbledon Day 1 Women’s Predictions

Aoi Ito vs Kamilla Rakhimova

Jordan:
Rakhimova had a good run to the quarterfinal in Eastbourne before Wimbledon. This will be Ito’s first match in a Grand Slam main draw. Rakhimova has been inconsistent this season, but she starts as the favorite in this matchup.
Prediction: Rakhimova in 3

Nurein:
Rakhimova has never won a main draw match at Wimbledon, but this is undoubtedly her best preparation for the event. She was a quarterfinalist in Eastbourne as a qualifier and should use that momentum to get a much-needed win at SW19.
Prediction: Rakhimova in 2

Yesh:
Ito is a youngster with real potential, but it’s hard to back or trust her at this point. The Russian is far likelier to win.
Prediction: Rakhimova in 2

Harriet Dart vs Dalma Galfi

Jordan:
Dart played well against defending Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in Eastbourne and had match points to win. However, she has endured a terrible season overall, and I feel the encounter with Krejcikova could hinder instead of inspiring her. The Briton might be in danger against any opponent at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Galfi in 3

Nurein:
Dart is match-tough in these conditions and on home soil. Dalma Galfi has struggled to find form this swing, so I’m going with the Briton to show a bit more assurance and pick up a valuable win.
Prediction: Dart in 3

Yesh:
I am really impressed with Dart at the moment. Sure, she hasn’t put matches away that she should have, but she is playing really well right now.
Prediction: Dart in 2

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Jordan:
Pavlyuchenkova reached the semifinal in Eastbourne a few days ago. Nonetheless, I am backing Tomljanovic. Pavlyuchenkova usually struggles most on grass, and it would not be surprising if a strong run was followed by an early exit. Tomljanovic also possesses a style to thwart her big hitting if she plays well.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2

Nurein:
It goes under the radar that Tomljanovic has made the quarterfinals of Wimbledon twice in her career. When she’s locked in, she is near unbeatable on grass. Her grass credentials have convinced me that she’ll eat the former French Open finalist.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2

Yesh:
Tomljanovic is a strong player and solid on grass. On the other hand, the Russian is capable of real greatness at any time. Unfortunately, she’s not consistent enough for it, and I think Tonljanovic will frustrate her and negate the Russian’s superior firepower.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2

Elina Svitolina vs Anna Bondar

Jordan:
Svitolina is a much better grass court player than Bondar. The Hungarian will try, probably in vein, to frustrate her higher-ranked player by getting many balls back into play. A poor performance from Svitolina is needed to give Bondar any hope.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Nurein:
Svitolina is one of nine mothers who is playing at this year’s Championships. She’s a two-time semifinalist and couldn’t have asked for a kinder opener. Bondar has never won a main draw match on grass at this level, so a first on the opening day of Wimbledon would rank as a huge surprise.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Yesh:
Svitolina is the better player. And while she isn’t currently at her dominant full potential, she’s not too far off that, either.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
