Day 1 of Wimbledon kicks off with a whopping 32 women’s matches–half of the first round. As always, our team here at LWOT will share their thoughts on every single match with you. We split the 32 matches between eight articles. In addition to this articles, the other feature Aryna Sabalenka vs Carson Branstine, Elina Svitolina vs Anna Bondar, Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva, Leylah Fernandez vs Hannah Klugman, Madison Keys vs Elena Gabriela Ruse, Naomi Osaka vs Talia Gibson, and Jasmine Paolini vs Anastasija Sevastova. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Tope Oke, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will win?

Wimbledon Day 1 Women’s Predictions

Greet Minnen vs Olivia Gadecki

Jordan:
Minnen will look to shake off a surprising loss to Francesca Jones in Eastbourne after playing well during the grass court swing until then. She starts as a slight favorite against an opponent who has only managed one win in qualifying on grass in 2025. Minnen possesses more experience and craft on the surface when she plays well.
Prediction: Minnen in 2

Tope:
Olivia Gadecki will be looking to get past the first round of a Major for the second time ever in her career but it appears that won’t be happening against the Minnen, who has won eight of her ten matches on grass this year.
Prediction: Minnen in 2

Yesh:
Minnen has not looked at her best in recent matches (since Birmingham). Then again, neither has Gadecki. I do think that Gadecki plays more naturally on this surface, which could make the difference in the end.
Prediction: Gadecki in 3

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Rebecca Sramkova

Jordan:
Sramkova reached the Nottingham Open semifinal and defeated defending Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova during the grass court swing. But that is not enough for me to back her against Haddad Maia. I trust the Brazilian to perform better at a Grand Slam and rise to the occasion under that kind of pressure.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Tope:
Both players are evenly matched, even as their head-to-head suggests adding an air of uncertainty to their first meeting on grass. The Brazilian has looked more solid on the surface and should grind out a win against a tricky opponent.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Yesh:
Haddad Maia has been a breakout player the last few years, but has really struggled at the Slams. I have no idea why that is, but I can’t trust her on big occasions.
Prediction: Sramkova in 3

Diana Shnaider vs Moyuka Uchijima

Jordan:
Shnaider has established herself as an all-court player after winning titles on all three surfaces last year. She should have enough to overcome Uchijima. The Japanese player’s style is least compatible with grass.
Prediction: Shnaider in 2

Tope:
Moyuka Uchijima has made it through the opening round of Majors three out of six times, including the last two US and Australian Opens–but not a Wimbledon, and Diane Shnaider should ensure it remains that way.
Prediction: Shnaider in 2

Yesh:
Shnaider is a rising star who should threaten to win Slams in the future. She should have no trouble in this one.
Prediction: Shnaider in 2

Emma Raducanu vs Mingge Xu

Jordan:
Xu has nothing to lose against her better-known compatriot. The 17-year-old is talented, but her best level remains far below Raducanu’s. A victory for the teenager would be one of the biggest upsets seen at SW19 in recent years.
Prediction: Raducanu in 2

Tope:
Xu not only reached the quarterfinals of the Birmingham Classic, but she also defeated Katie Volynets in Nottingham to advance to the second round of a WTA 250 Tour event, further showcasing her skill. However, Raducanu’s power especially from the baseline should be too much for her younger compatriot.
Prediction: Raducanu in 2

Yesh:
Wimbledon gave multiple wild cards to teenagers with potential, and I think it was probably a mistake. These young players are about to be in way over their heads in the biggest matches of their lives.
Prediction: Raducanu in 2
