It should be a terrific match and a fitting way to end a terrific tournament. We here at LWOT give our prediction and analysis in this article, but which player do you think will triumph?

WTA Auckland Final Prediction

Elina Svitolina vs Wang Xinyu

Head-to-head: Svitolina 1-0 Wang

Svitolina’s most significant test by far en route to the final was against Sonay Kartal. She got pushed to a deciding set tiebreak, but ultimately prevailed 6-4 6-7 7-6. Her other victories against Varvara Gracheva, Katie Boulter, and Iva Jovic were in straight sets. Wang survived tight battles against Alexandra Eala and Caty McNally, and overcame Renata Zarazua and Francesca Jones more comfortably.

Both players will try to dictate with their forehands. A few years ago, Svitolina probably would have focused on grinding out points and generating mistakes from Wang. Since returning from maternity leave in 2023, she has been much more aggressive, especially with her forehand. The Ukrainian will not curb those instincts in this matchup despite her opponent’s powerful game.

Wang’s triumphs against players like French Open champion Coco Gauff and consistent Top-10 player Jessica Pegula show how dangerous she is at her best. If the Chinese player’s groundstrokes are accurate, she has a chance. However, whether she will find that level in her second WTA final is uncertain. Svitolina’s outstanding 18-4 win/loss record in finals indicates the 31-year-old will almost certainly rise to the occasion.

Overall, Svitolina’s experience and slightly better ability to get free points on serve make her the more likely winner. Wang must consistently bully the former Wimbledon semifinalist from the baseline, which is challenging to do against someone so wily.

Prediction: Svitolina in 2
