The WTA Beijing action will continue on day two in the Chinese capital. As always, we here at LWOT cover all the action on day two, including Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Janice Tjen and Donna Vekic vs Cristina Bucsa, but who will book their spot in the second round?

 WTA Beijing Day 2 Predictions

Ann Li vs Camila Osorio

Head-to-head: Li 1-1 Osorio

Camila Osorio is mostly a defensive-minded player. In rallies where she steps into the court and plays aggressively, the Colombian usually uses her forehand. Doing that against Ann Li will be difficult because she tries to control matches with her forehand, which is struck with much more power. Osorio’s hard-court game is not ideally suited to exposing Li’s much weaker backhand, making the American the favourite.

Magdalena Frech vs Ella Seidel

Head-to-head: Seidel 1-0 Frech

Ella Seidel is in good form. The German won four matches (including qualifying) to reach the quarterfinals of last week’s Korea Open, and then played well again in the China Open qualifying to beat Jessika Ponchet and top seed Emiliana Arango. This will be Magdalena Frech’s opening match of the Asian swing and so despite the Pole’s more accomplished overall CV, the in-form Seidel might just get the win in a tight battle.

Prediction: Seidel in 3

Jaqueline Cristian vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro

Head-to-head: first meeting

Both women try to control matches with their topspin forehands. Jaqueline Cristian relies slightly more on that shot than Jessica Bouzas Maneiro’s, whose backhand is a little more solid and can do some more damage. That might be what decides this matchup. Cristian could also be too aggressive and overhit with her forehand because of the pressure she will be under to dominate with that shot.

Lois Boisson vs Dalma Galfi

Head-to-head: first meeting

Observing how Lois Boisson adapts to the conditions in Beijing will be interesting. The courts are not overly fast, which suits her, but the lack of high bounce is a worse fit for her game. Particularly in this match where Dalma Galfi’s flat hitting contrasts with Boisson’s spinning shots. This is a challenging match to call and could go either way but Galfi is probably just about the favourite given the conditions in Beijing.

Prediction: Galfi in 3
