WTA Beijing Day 3 Predictions Including Jasmine Paolini vs Anastasija Sevastova
Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Jasmine Paolini was the main star of the Italian Billie Jean King Cup Finals team, which defended its title last week. The World No. 8 will now try to maintain that momentum in an individual setting at the China Open in Beijing. She takes on Anastasija Sevastova, who took a set off her at Wimbledon this year. Who do you think is coming out on top?

WTA Beijing Day 3 Predictions

Veronika Kudermetova vs Anna Bondar

Head-to-head: Kudermetova 1-0

The Cincinnati semifinal allowed Veronika Kudermetova to push herself back up the ranking ladder, but her game remains as inconsistent as ever. It sort of goes with the playstyle and her Guadalajara opening-round loss was a good example. The Russian will need to be cautious here as Anna Bondar has already gotten three matches under her belt in Beijing. She’s in good form, confident, and has gotten used to the conditions. This might heavily aid her chances to knock out the higher-ranked opponent.
Prediction: Bondar in 3

Belinda Bencic vs Katie Volynets

Head-to-head: Bencic 1-0

Belinda Bencic’s return from a pregnancy hiatus has been nothing short of triumphant, but since reaching Wimbledon semifinals she’s only won two matches in her next three events. It’s going to be her first appearance in Beijing since 2019 and she never went particularly deep here. But Katie Volynets seems like a decent draw. No major weapon to be afraid of and probably plenty of time to get herself going. Even despite the American already winning three times this week.
Prediction: Bencic in 2

Barbora Krejcikova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Head-to-head: Alexandrova 3-2

They haven’t played each other since Barbora Krejcikova defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova on the way to the Roland Garros title in 2021. Now this looks like a blockbuster with the Russian being in the form of her career and likely pushing for a Top 10 debut soon, while Krejcikova remains as dangerous as ever despite inconsistent form. They both lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek in Seoul last week, but Alexandrova came so much closer. She’s managed to make her game more consistent this year, maybe that’s enough.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Jasmine Paolini vs Anastasija Sevastova

Head-to-head: Paolini 3-0

35-year-old Anastasija Sevastova will not return to her US Open semifinal and career-high No. 11 days, but she’s been dangerous on occasion this season. At Wimbledon, she even went up a set on Jasmine Paolini before losing in three. The Latvian has so much experience and the high tennis IQ can allow her to mess up somebody who’s more reliant on sheer intensity and determination. But Paolini is likely going to snatch it again, she never quits and she perfectly displayed it last week at Billie Jean King Cup.
Prediction: Paolini in 2
