There are lots of exciting third-round matches scheduled on day six at WTA Beijing. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate but who will advance to the next round?
Head-to-head: first meeting
Both these players have played two great matches to reach this stage and have a great opportunity to advance further. The 19-year-old Maya Joint is having an incredible Asian swing debut and is ending her breakout season strongly with victories over Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva so far in the Chinese capital. The way she is playing, she should have the beating of Sonay Kartal in what should be an exciting match at WTA Beijing.
Head-to-head: first meeting
Zeynep Sonmez took out the 10th seed Clara Tauson in the second round to reach the third round for the first time at this level. Her aggressive game is causing a lot of damage to her opponents, and she is mixing it up well by coming to the net often. Anastasia Potapova got her revenge against Victoria Mboko, defeating the Canadian player in two tight sets. First serve percentage will be key for either player in this matchup but Sonmez should just have the edge.
Prediction: Sonmez in 3
Head-to-head: Zheng 1-0 Noskova
Zheng Qinwen is off to a winning start in her first match back since Wimbledon having been out with an injury since SW19. She looked a bit rusty, but that was expected after the gap. She is a great player when firing on all cylinders and will look to improve with every match here. However, Linda Noskova will be a stern test for the Chinese star. Noskova has the weapons to match Zheng and has been in decent form on hard courts. If Zheng doesn’t improve her error count, she will lose this.
Head-to-head: Swiatek 1-0 Osorio
The top seed, Iga Swiatek, is off to a solid start as she dropped just three games against Yuan Yue in the second round. She will face a tougher challenge against Camila Osorio, who is consistent from the baseline. However, Osorio lacks the pace to disrupt Swiatek. With her exceptional ability to return, Swiatek will generate enough break opportunities, and eventually, the Colombian will give in to the relentless pressure. The opening set might be tight, but if Swiatek can win it – she should advance comfortably.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
