Four more quarterfinal spots will be decided on Thursday at the WTA 500 in Guadalajara. Third seed Jelena Ostapenko will face in-form qualifier Marina Stakusic in the same stage of this tournament for a second year in a row. But who will advance?
Head-to-head: first meeting
Jvoic is now sitting comfortably in the Top 100. She’s no longer a newcomer and is slowly backing up that teenage promise with wins. The American has won at least half of her Tour-level matches this season, the latest being a three-set rollercoaster against Katerzyna Kawa. Wins have been few and far between for Osorio in 2025, but the Colombian improved on her perfect record against Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round in Guadalajara. Osorio has layers to her game, but when it comes to raw pace from the baseline, it is the 17-year-old who is likelier to come out on top.
Prediction: Jovic in 3
Head-to-head: first meeting
After sitting out for most of the 2025 season due to multiple injuries, Sotmr Hunter enjoyed a winning return to Guadalajara. The Australian powered past fellow doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova in the opening round for her first win of her comeback. But it’s still early days for Hunter, who at World No. 1269 is practically rebuilding from the ground up. This will be her fifth match of the season, and considering her current fitness levels, she may not be ready to string together consecutive wins. Arango was a quarterfinalist in this tournament two years ago, and coupled with her improved consistency on hard courts (finalist in Merida), makes her the favorite in this match.
Prediction: Arango in 2
Head-to-head: Stakusic 1-0 Ostapenko
Last season, Ostapenko shockingly lost to Stakusic in this tournament. The Latvian led 4-0 with the insurance of a double break in the third set and then 5-3, and after wasting four match points, she was defeated in a deciding tie-break. It was one of the craziest matches of the season, featuring 34 double faults (17 each) and lasting three hours. It’s a roll of the dice when Ostapenko turns up for her first match in any tournament. That unpredictability in her game makes this match tough to call.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 3
Head-to-head: first meeting
Prediction: Frech in 2
