First-round action at the WTA Monterrey concludes with six more matches. There will be a rematch of last year’s final when Linda Noskova faces Lulu Sun in the last match on the schedule. As always, we at LWOT preview and predict every match on the docket. But who will advance to the next round?

WTA Monterrey Day 2 Predictions

Rebecca Sramkova vs Victoria Rodriguez

Head-to-head: first meeting

Sramkova’s game has been all over the place since a semifinal her semifinal run in Nottingham in June. The big-hitting Slovak has won three matches in her last five tournaments and only one in the build-up to the US Open. It’s highly unlikely Sramkova will be seeded in New York unless there are mass withdrawals. That said, she will have a comfortable opening match to ease herself into the tournament in Monterrey. Victoria Rodriguez is outside the world’s Top 400 and without a significant win on the main tour in a long time.

Prediction: Sramkova in 2

Leolia Jeanjean vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Head-to-head: first meeting

Cocciaretto’s trips to Mexico have been quite eventful. She won two titles at the WTA 125K level while competing in this part of the globe and was a quarterfinalist in Monterrey two years ago. But that doesn’t offer any assurances she will breeze through her opening match against Leolia Jeanjean. The Frenchwoman is a rhythm disruptor, and her strong qualifying run extinguishes any injury concerns she might have after withdrawing from Cincinnati. With her change-ups in patterns of play, Jeanjean could frustrate the Italian.

Prediction: Jeanjean in 3

Linda Noskova vs Lulu Sun

Head-to-head: Noskova 2-1 Sun

Noskova won a closely contested final last year, beating Lulu Sun in two tight sets. The New Zealander had two set points in the first set tie-break of that match but did not convert. Sun was able to settle the score in their most recent match this season at Indian Wells when she defeated Noskova in straight sets. Sun made waves last season with her jaw-dropping quarterfinal finish at Wimbledon, but is now in danger of falling out of the Top 100 after a disappointing 14-21 record in 2025. Expect another close match in the offing with Noskova’s heavier ball and match toughness prevailing.

Prediction: Noskova in 3
