The WTA 1000 in Montreal always throws up a few intriguing early matchups, and this year’s first round features some close contests on paper that could swing either way depending on rhythm and confidence. With form and match fitness playing a significant role in these opening rounds, several players will hope to capitalize on recent momentum or draw on past experience to advance. Who do you back to triumph?

WTA Montreal Day 2 Predictions

Caroline Dolehide vs Anna Blinkova

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Neither player arrives in standout form, but Anna Blinkova seems a touch more comfortable on the surface. Caroline Dolehide hasn’t won back-to-back main draw matches since the spring and may need a fast start to feel her way into this one. The matchup might favor her opponent’s flat, compact hitting. Still, if Dolehide serves well, it could be close.

Prediction: Dolehide in 2

Sorana Cirstea vs Lulu Sun

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Neither player has played on hard courts since Wimbledon, though Cirstea did find success in her lone outing in Iasi. Cirstea equally has the edge in experience and power, but Sun is quick around the court and can redirect pace well when confident. They’ve never met before, and while Cirstea will look to dictate, Sun has the tools to frustrate her if this turns into a grind. A tight one wouldn’t be a surprise.

Prediction: Cirstea in 2

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Sevastova

Head-to-Head: Sevastova 2–1 Tomljanovic

Anastasija Sevastova is set to play her first post-Wimbledon hard-court match here as she continues to work her way back into tour rhythm. Tomljanovic has had more match time over the summer, but results have been patchy as she tries to rebuild consistency after injury. Sevastova holds a slight edge in the head-to-head, but Tomljanovic thrives in these conditions. However, if Sevastova finds her range early, she could make things uncomfortable for the Aussie.

Prediction: Tomljanovic in 3
