The WTA Tour’s move to Asia brought an intriguing week of tennis, with Iga Swiatek continuing her strong performance.

The Wimbledon champion defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets, coming from behind to win the Korea Open final.

Afterwards, Swiatek had plenty of praise for her opponent, and she looks to be hitting her stride just as the China Open gets underway.

At the US Open, she lost to Amanda Anisimova, a surprising result given their previous matchup in Wimbledon.

Swiatek’s coach acknowledged there were issues during that tournament. However, after this latest win, it seems she has found her rhythm again.

Iga Swiatek widens gap over Coco Gauff in latest WTA rankings

Swiatek slipped to seventh in the WTA rankings after her semi-final exit at Roland-Garros. But given her standards, that never seemed likely to last.

Over the last months, she has moved past Coco Gauff and opened up a healthy lead over the American star. And she is not stopping there.

Gauff has spent time working on her serve, but it has come at the cost of losing ground at the top of the rankings.

With previous experience as world number one, Swiatek will be looking to close in further on Aryna Sabalenka before the season wraps up.

Updated WTA rankings following the Korea Open

Swiatek is still sitting in second place, but she has now built a comfortable gap over Gauff heading into the upcoming tournaments.

It has been an excellent second half of the year for the Polish icon, and overall, it has been far from a disappointing one for the six-time Grand Slam champion.

Rank Player Pointa
1 Aryna Sabalenka 11225
2 Iga Swiatek 8433
3 Coco Gauff 7874
4 Amanda Anisimova 5109
5 Mirra Andreeva 4793
6 Madison Keys 4579
7 Jessica Pegula 4383
8 Jasmine Paolini 4006
9 Qinwen Zheng 4003
10 Elena Rybakina 3833

Having won the WTA Finals in 2023, Swiatek would again be a top contender at the event if she secures another trophy during the Asian swing this year.

The rankings rarely mislead on the WTA Tour, and after slipping to seventh earlier this year, Swiatek has shown plenty of determination to climb her way back up.
