Four terrific WTA Wuhan quarterfinals are scheduled. Grand Slam champions Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina will all compete. We at LWOT provide our predictions and analysis in this article, but which players do you think will reach the semifinals?

WTA Wuhan Quarterfinal Predictions

Jessica Pegula vs Katerina Siniakova

Head-to-head: Pegula 4-1 Siniakova

After a patchy singles season, Siniakova has suddenly come to life in Wuhan, winning five matches since qualifying without dropping a set. Pegula battled through her opening two contests in deciders. Although Siniakova’s level has been better in Wuhan, I still favor Pegula more on hard courts. The Czech’s best chance of winning would be on grass, and her higher-ranked opponent has won their two previous hard court meetings in straight sets.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Aryna Sabalenka vs Elena Rybakina

Head-to-head: Sabalenka 7-5 Rybakina

This is one of the best rivalries in tennis. The pair are 4-4 on outdoor hard courts, with Rybakina winning their last meeting in Cincinnati. Neither woman will deviate from their aggressive styles, but Sabalenka possesses slightly more variety. The World No. 1 is the three-time defending champion in Wuhan and has never lost a match at the tournament. Rybakina, being one of the likeliest players to break that streak, is still not enough for me to go against Sabalenka.

Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Iga Swiatek vs Jasmine Paolini

Head-to-head: Swiatek 6-0 Paolini

This is Paolini’s most challenging matchup. She has only taken one set from Swiatek in their previous six encounters. The Italian is mentally strong and will probably not let that impact her mindset in this meeting. Nonetheless, Swiatek will expect to win this match. Paolini does not have enough firepower to penetrate Swiatek’s defense, and the Pole is not intimidated by the 2024 Wimbledon runner-up’s athleticism.

Prediction: Swiatek in 2

Coco Gauff vs Laura Siegemund

Head-to-head: Gauff 1-1 Siegemund

Gauff has struggled against Siegemund. The German beat her in 2020 and came closer than anyone to doing so during the 21-year-old’s 2023 US Open title run. Siegemund’s slice is challenging for Gauff’s forehand, which can leak errors from opponents’ low-bouncing shots. However, Gauff’s improved level since this year’s US Open should help her manage this awkward matchup. She is also the best in women’s tennis at digging out ugly victories if necessary.

Prediction: Gauff in 2
