A former Texas A&M quarterback has earned a starting job, but not with a team in the NFL.
The United Football League announced on X this past Friday that former Aggie QB Kellen Mond has been named the starting quarterback of the San Antonio Brahmas for the upcoming 2025 season. After an unsuccessful career in the NFL, Mond signed with the Brahmas in October 2024 after being released by the Saints. The former Senior Bowl MVP would then go on to take the Brahmas all the way to the UFL Championship, where they would ultimately lose to the Birmingham Stallions.
Mond, who played for Texas A&M from 2017 to 2020, is one of three SEC quarterbacks to record over nine thousand passing yards and fifteen hundred rushing yards, joining Florida’s Tim Tebow and Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott. Mond is credited with a total of 9,661 passing yards and 71 touchdowns during his time at College Station, along with 1,609 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. The former third round pick is most famous for leading the Aggies to an unfathomable 74-72 win over Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers at Kyle Field.
After backing up Kirk Cousins on the Vikings during his rookie year, Mond was released and quickly signed by the Cleveland Browns. The former Aggie would then spend time with the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints playing backup and practice squad roles, before ultimately signing with the Brahmas in 2024. The starting quarterback roll for San Antonio provides Mond with a fresh start as he looks to turn his career around.
Kellen Mond and the San Antonio Brahmas will open their season on March 29th when they take on the Arlington Renegades at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington at 3:00 p.m.
