Well, well, well! Look what crawled out of the medieval woodwork at Future Games Show 2025. 1348 Ex Voto just dropped its reveal trailer, and honestly? I’m getting some serious historical action vibes that might just scratch that itch you’ve been having since finishing your last knight-in-shining-armor game.
Publisher Dear Villagers and newly minted Italian developer Sedleo just announced this cinematic action-adventure game set in—you guessed it—1348 Italy. Because apparently, someone looked at the Black Death era and thought, “You know what? This needs more sword fighting!”
The game follows Aeta (voiced by Alby Baldwin), a young noble who’s basically having the worst day of her medieval life. Bandits raided her villag e and kidnapped her closest companion Bianca (Jennifer English). So naturally, Aeta grabs her sword and decides to trek across plague-ridden Italy like some kind of 14th-century Liam Neeson with a very particular set of skills.
Here’s where things get interesting. Sedleo isn’t just throwing together another generic medieval game. These folks actually went to rural Italy, explored the landscapes, and recorded everything they needed to create what they’re calling “life-like environments.” That’s some serious ded ication to authenticity—or a really good excuse for a company retreat.
The combat system looks particularly promising, drawing inspiration from Historical European Martial Arts. You’ll get to switch between one-handed and two-handed combat stances, find skill books to unlock new combos, and basically become the medieval warrior you always knew you were destined to be.
1348 Ex Voto is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam) in early 2026. That gives you plenty of time to brush up on your Italian history and practice your sword-swinging techniques.
Sure, we’ve seen plenty of medieval games before, but there’s something refreshingly honest about a developer saying, “We’re making a game about one of history’s most brutal periods, and we’re not going to sugarcoat it.” Plus, with AAA veterans on the team and that trailer showing off some genuinely impressive visuals, this might be the historical adventure we didn’t know we needed.
