Absolum Drops October 9—Beat-‘Em-Up Chaos and Frog Wizard Glory Await

Absolum is finally hitting our screens, and honestly, it’s about time. We got to so the latest trailer during the Gamescom Opening Night Live pre-show, and while the beat-’em-up action looks sick, let’s be real—the main event is the frog wizard. Yes, you read that right. A wizard. Who is also a frog. My life is now complete (the void in my soul? Gone)!

A New Trailer To Nerd Over

The new story trailer was an emotional rollercoaster. We see one of the game’s outcasts, Cider, trying to save a ridiculously cute frog baby from imperial goons. Just when you think it’s curtains for our hero, a massive frog mage bursts onto the scene, looking absolutely furious that anyone would dare mess with a tiny amphibian. You just know things are about to go down.

Absolum’s Release Date and Platforms

So, when can you get your hands on this glorious, frog-filled adventure? The trailer blessedly ended by revealing the release date: October 9th. Mark your calendars, people! It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch. Basically, there’s no excuse not to play it (well, except for money issues).

What is Absolum?

If you’ve been living under a rock, Absolum is the brainchild of Dotemu, the geniuses behind Streets of Rage 4. They’re mashing up classic beat-’em-up gameplay with roguelike elements. This means every time you get wiped out, you come back stronger, ready to unleash even more chaos. It’s a genius loop that’s bound to get its hooks into you.

The key art for the game keeps getting updated with new playable characters as they’re revealed, and so far, the roster is looking pretty stacked. With Dotemu at the helm and a frog wizard on the team, Absolum is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases this year. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go rewatch that trailer for the tenth time. For the frog, of course.
