The gameplay trailer for Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025. Developed by Microids Studio Lyon, this retelling of the classic murder mystery gives the story a new twist by giving Hercule Poirot a co-detective and setting it in the era of disco.

The trailer shows Hercule Poirot (sporting his iconic mustache) entering a bar lit with a disco ball and neon lighting, letting the player know right away that this won’t be a traditional Christie retelling. Onscreen text advertises that “cruising the Nile River has never been so dangerous,” before showing us that a second detective is involved. The second detective is a woman named Jane Royce, and she has her own story that collides with Poirot’s. The text tells us that “Every detail matters!” which indicates that you will be solving some tough detective puzzles.

“The Story Doesn’t End with the Book”

The game’s Steam page advertises that “the story doesn’t end with the book.” You will get to travel to exotic locations as the two detectives’ stories unfold and intertwine. The Steam page also discusses how the 70’s was “a decade of significant social change.” Since Jane Royce is a woman of color, the game will likely tackle issues of racism and inclusion. In an increasingly divided world, it might help to be reminded of how we still have a long way to go towards erasing bigotry.

Conclusion

Death on the Nile looks like a fascinating retelling of the classic story. With the updated time period and the addition of a second detective, it can take the player on a rich journey that still feels familiar. If you enjoy exploring how classics can be retold, this game is for you. Or, if you just enjoy playing a detective and solving puzzles, this game is also for you.
