The xenomorphs are back, and this time they didn’t sneak in through a leaky dev server or a blurry marketing slide. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has officially popped up on the ESRB’s website, and while the listing was quickly pulled, the damage (or hype) is done. The sequel is real. It’s happening. And it’s bringing the hive with it.
The now-vanished ESRB entry listed this, hopefully, upcoming game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a familiar M-for-Mature rating. The description was exactly what you’d expect from a follow-up to Cold Iron Studios’ 2021 co-op shooter: third-person action, squad-based tactics, and a whole lot of acid blood. The listing mentioned “realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large blood-splatter effects,” plus enemies that “emit shrieks and splashes of green blood when hit.” In other words, it’s still Aliens, and it’s still messy.
The unannounced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has been rated by the ESRB. Seems to be published by Daybreak Game Company this time? (Focus Entertainment published the first game.)https://t.co/nee1Py4enl pic.twitter.com/AcnzyrR2fM

This isn’t some wild rumor or wishlist leak—it’s a regulatory breadcrumb. The ESRB doesn’t rate vaporware. If a game shows up there, it’s because it’s far enough along to need a content rating. That means Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is likely deep in development, and a reveal could be imminent.
The original Fireteam Elite was a scrappy, squad-based survival shooter that leaned into the James Cameron flavor of the Aliens universe: pulse rifles, motion trackers, and relentless waves of xenos. It wasn’t perfect, but it carved out a niche with fans who wanted Left 4 Dead-style co-op wrapped in Weyland-Yutani dread. And it’s been quietly supported since launch, with new classes, campaigns, and balance updates that kept the hive buzzing.
A sequel gives Cold Iron a chance to go bigger—more enemy types, deeper progression, better mission variety, and hopefully a stronger narrative spine. The ESRB listing didn’t mention story specifics, but the fact that it exists at all suggests the studio is ready to evolve the formula.
There’s no official announcement yet—no trailer, no press release, no cheeky tweet with a facehugger emoji. But the ESRB listing is a strong signal that something is coming soon. The fact that it was pulled so quickly only adds fuel to the fire. Someone hit “publish” too early, and now the xeno’s out of the bag.
We don’t know if this is a direct sequel, a soft reboot, or a standalone expansion. We don’t know if it’s still three-player co-op or if Cold Iron is expanding the squad. But we do know this: Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is real, and it’s headed for modern platforms.
If you’ve been waiting for another chance to lock and load with your crew and scream “They’re coming outta the goddamn walls!”—your time is almost here. Stay frosty.
