Astro Bot took the world by storm last year, winning an absolutely overwhelming amount of awards, including several awards for game of the year. The Sony exclusive platforming earned rave reviews for the fantastic level design, impeccable gameplay, wonderful music and visuals, and adorable mascot Astro Bot that is accessible for the young and grown. It had been a while since Sony had truly had a marketable mascot, and this game finally rectified that flaw. It appears Sony wants to continue to capitalize on one of their strongest exclusives in years, and has announced an update that will bring new challenges, new items, and even a brand new limited edition DualSense controller.
Astro Bot was not expected to have the level of success it did, but Team Asobi, developers of the game, did a fantastic job providing players with so much engaging, engrossing content that nearly every publication recognized it for what it was: a modern platforming masterpiece. Now, this Game of the Year is not resting on the original reception. The team is providing players with an all-new update coming in July.
The developers released an announcement letter alongside the State of Play trailer from June 4. “5 brand new levels will make their way into the game as part of the Vicious Void Galaxy, bringing the total number of levels in Astro Bot to a whopping 90+! As with our last update, these 5 levels will require you to pull every bit of skill together to complete, so hang on to your DualSense Controller and dive in! The 5 levels available will be: Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, High Inflation and… well. You’ll have to play and see. And who knows? Maybe completing all Vicious Void might lead to something really cool?”
Along with the new Astro Bot levels comes new bots as well, including one from Ghosts of Yotei, Atsu. Along with all this great content, there will also be another limited edition Dual Sense controller being released. “This controller was crafted by our techno-magician designers at Sony Interactive Entertainment. And since the first controller proved so popular, we have brought it back with a new joyful twist to the touch pad!” That touch pad will include the iconic bot “smile eyes”.
Players and fans of Astro Bot have a lot to look forward to with the new update, with entirely new content that should add challenge for those seeking some refreshing and difficult tests. The update will become available on July 10, 2025, with future controller updates dropping soon.
