It’s been 2 years since Atomic Heart released in 2023, and it has officially hit the 10 million player marker—so congratulations to them and kudos to all the people who worked on it!

Now, this is a representation of players, not sales, but still—that’s 10 million people playing Atomic Heart. That alone makes it a milestone worth celebrating.

Atomic Heart is playable on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms and was developed by Mundfish. It actually “took the world by surprise as a breakout AAA debut from an unknown studio,” a title that set a “new bar for visual and cinematic quality in FPS games.”

Since launch, it’s earned over 60 Best of the Year accolades and released three story-driven DLCs—and here’s the download: there’s one more “in the works.”

What Made Atomic Heart Stand Out?

Now, in case you need a refresher, here’s what Atomic Heart is. Released in February 2023, this first-person adventure shooter was set in an alternate universe that was depicted as“during the high noon of the Soviet Union,” Where you are to traverse through an utopia turned robotic dystopia (as one does) to find out what went wrong. All while an AI whines in your ear every chance it gets.

It was a standout game that paid great attention to details during the PvE action and puzzle scenes (though some were mildly annoying). It was a great example of how an atomic punk video game should look—kind of picking up where Bioshock left off in the niche that is alternate universe video games.

What’s Next for the Franchise?

Now, Mundfish Studio is setting up a game support service, Mundfish Powerhouse, to support developers and investors in bringing out more “standout projects to the market,”. Basically, fancy corporate speak for new content.

So! This means that there should be ongoing content and DLCs in the near future—and for fans, this is wonderful news! Considering what they’ve done without a game support service? We can’t wait to see what they do when they actually have a dedicated workforce geared towards creating new content for Atomic Heart.

Let’s hope they don’t go the way of other games who decided to use game support services to just try and suck every little bit and last dime from their players (sideyes COD).
