Battlefield 6 is Blowing Up Steam Sales and Wishlists Like You Wouldn’t Believe

There’s a new war on the horizon, and it deals with determining the biggest, most successful Battlefield game ever. And it also has other FPS games in its sights. It’s Battlefield 6, of course, and it might turn out to be one of the top games of the year.

As of this article, the EA published FPS game has just about completed its second week of beta and it has been a blast, so to speak. According to Steam, Battlefield 6 (BF6) has already accumulated a player peak of over half a million players. That much rapid growth tells a lot about the anticipation for this game’s release.

That’s not all, BF6 has inadvertently taken shots at its biggest rival and competitor, Call of Duty (CoD), by surpassing Call of Duty HQ’s record number of concurrent players, which stood at 491,670, according to GameSpot. And Call of Duty HQ combines both Black Ops 6 and Warzone within one launcher.

Furthermore, Alinea Analytics has shown BF6 infographics detailing how the game has registered 605k preorders, netting EA $35M in revenues. Following that hotness, the game is sitting pretty in 2.7M wishlists.

While things look hopeful, only time will tell how successful and good the game really is. The last entry in the franchise was Battlefield 2042, and there were plenty of mixed reviews and controversies surrounding it.

It’s still too early to fully review the game, and the full experience will most likely have some surprises in store for players. Overall, most critics have given generally positive and optimistic reviews—though with some caution. Discussions on social media also vary wildly, unsurprisingly. Talk about the game ranges from it seeming too similar to CoD, to the graphics not yet being up to par with previous BF games, to the Beta being thoroughly enjoyed.

Finally, a new Call of Duty is also planned for release later this year, in line with Activision’s annual schedule. Even though CoD focuses on fast-paced, arcade-style action with flashy cosmetics, while BF6 leans more toward war simulation and large-scale team coordination with vehicles, the two games still compete for the top FPS title.

Battlefield 6, like its prequels, focuses on large-scale warfare, featuring massive open maps, dynamic weather, and destructible environments. Gameplay emphasizes teamwork, objective-based missions, and vehicle combat. Powered by the updated Frostbite engine, it delivers realistic lighting and destruction, though it demands higher-end hardware for the best experience. Battlefield’s multiplayer leans toward strategic coordination, attracting a more dedicated, tactical community. While content updates are larger and less frequent, they often bring significant changes and new gameplay elements.

Call of Duty 2025, on the other hand, offers fast-paced action with smaller, tightly designed maps and a focus on individual skill. Running on the IW engine, it delivers smooth performance across most systems, making it accessible to a wide player base. Its multiplayer is reflex-driven, highly competitive, and supported by a strong global esports scene. With frequent seasonal updates, deep weapon customization, and the popular Warzone battle royale mode, CoD appeals to players who prefer quick matches, constant content, and a more mainstream experience.

The inevitable clash is underway, just like a stare-down and shootout in a classic America Wild West movie. At the end of the day, which title do you think will be left standing as the victor and come out on top? It’s also a good thing that BF6 is released across multiple platforms.
