Blighted is a 3D hack-and-slash RPG set in a world where dead people have seeds implanted in their brains. After they’re buried, trees grow from the seeds, and when people eat the fruit, they experience the dead person’s memories. The trailer was dropped at Summer Game Fest, and it looks like an adrenaline-pumping experience.

The Blighted Trailer

Developed by Drinkbox Studios, the team behind Guacamelee!, Blighted takes place in a world where seeds are implanted in dead people’s brains. The trees that grow from the seeds bear fruit that lets people relive the dead’s memories. However, someone named Sorcisto sought power by eating living people’s brains, causing a disease to spread across the world. The trailer begins by showing the devastation from the disease and explaining the backstory.

That Sounds Interesting, But What About the Gameplay?

You hack-and-slash your way through an isometric 3D world with surreal visuals. According to the game’s Steam page, the Blight that infects you and the whole world “serves as a dynamic difficulty system that constantly changes the enemies, the player, and the world around them. After defeating a boss, you can consume its memories to add to your skills, but it will also add to your Blight. You will also need to “pay careful attention while exploring to unlock the many deep secrets of Blighted‘s world.” The game also features co-op play, where you and a friend can fight together.

This Sounds Great! When Does It Come Out?

You can wishlist the game on Steam right now, but there is no set release date. It is planned to be released sometime in 2026, but as of the writing of this article, we don’t know anything about the release beyond that. Still, with such an amazing premise and trailer, it is bound to be worth the wait. Fans of indie games, action RPGs, or just hack-and-slash combat should definitely give this a look.
