Finally! We have another steampunk first-person shooter RPG! It’s called Clockwork Revolution, and it features a very interesting game mechanic—time travel. It’s something we’ve seen in other games, sure, but not in a steampunk world where your time-traveling choices change the entire game.
Let’s go over Clockwork Revolution, which premiered at the Xbox Showcase this year!
As we watch the trailer, we’re welcomed into the city of Avalon—a vibrant, fully steam-powered metropolis in an alternate universe. But there’s a problem. As you roam this stunning world, you start to notice that it has been carefully crafted through historical alterations.
But who would do that? Why, the people running the city, of course! They’ve changed the course of history to gain—and maintain—power.
So what are you to do? Easy! Change it yourself. During the story, you obtain a device that lets you jump through time to certain key moments. Travel back to those key moments in time, and your interactions will trigger the infamous Butterfly Effect, altering the narrative, the world, and how the characters of Avalon react in this new timeline.
Clockwork Revolution took a steampunk universe and jammed as much as they could into it, while still keeping it all cohesive and logical for players.
We’ve got:
Only then can anything change.
The developers at inXile Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios have really hit an RPG goldmine here with both game mechanics and attention to detail. If they can pull it off, this could easily become one of the most anticipated titles in the near future.
So quickly—add it to your wishlist to stay up to date on every reveal and detail they share about this thrilling, time-bending, steam-powered ride.
