The iconic anti-hero is coming to virtual reality. Announced at Summer Games Fest 2025 on June 6, Deadpool VR brings the same trademark humor to a completely immersive experience. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to see the world from the Marvel jokesters’ lens, this is finally your opportunity to do so. While hilarity is certainly the name of the game, do not sleep on the exciting, action-packed adventure that the game promises you as well.
Slip on your virtual reality headsets and step into the life of an anti-hero. Superheroes have had success on VR already, with Batman: Arkham Shadow a strong proof of concept. Now, you get to become the Merc with a mouth, a second attempt to enter the video game space after a failed attempt back in 2013. Instead of hearing the voice of Ryan Reynolds in your ear, though, it will be the patented snark of Neil Patrick Harris. With VR history on its side and a development team in Twisted Pixel that has a history of comedic, successful games, Deadpool HR has a solid foundation on which to build.
Besides comedy, Deadpool VR will be packed with violent action. The game starts with you controlling a headless Deadpool, and the action only ramps up from there. According to a playtest by IGN:
“There’s some give and take with Marvel when it comes to getting studio approval on the developer’s craziest ideas, admitted executive producer Jody Coglianese, but she told me that if they say no to anything it’s more about the character than any gameplay actions. But she said Marvel pushed Twisted Pixel more than the other way around, playing builds and then leaving feedback like, “What if holding your controller at a certain angle with one of your swords equipped enabled ‘x’ action?” And then the developer would put that new move into the game.”
Twisted Pixel also promises secret levels and plenty of exciting appearances from the classic Deadpool universe. To get a taste of what to expect from the game, check the trailer linked here, which is embed-protected thanks to the mature rating.
Deadpool VR has the makings of one of the better VR games coming out in 2025. Where Batman has a dark and serious atmosphere, Deadpool takes nothing seriously, and is better for it. The game will be available exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3s, and will launch late in 2025, likely during the holiday season, though an exact release date has not yet been announced.
