With the Rite of the Nine event, players have a significantly easier time acquiring The Navigator in Destiny 2. Players can pick it up by completing a quest instead of waiting for the Exotic to drop from Ghosts of the Deep runs. You only need to complete one of the Rite of the Nine dungeons, and you can select between The Navigator, Hierarchy of Needs, or the Gjallahorn Catalyst. Before we begin, players must know they can only get The Navigator Catalyst from non-Rite of the Nine runs.

Destiny 2: The Navigator Catalyst Function

The Catalyst for The Navigator Exotic Trace Rifle gives the weapon a special reload function. If players hold down their reload button, they can create a Grapple Tangle at a location of the player’s choosing. The Grapple Tangle is primarily used for players wanting to deal damage with Grapple Melee builds. The predominant users are Titans, with Synthoceps or Wormgod Caress or Hunters with Deadfall tether and an Exotic Class Item with Spirit of Synthoceps (nerfed from its original damage values).

The Navigator Catalyst Quest Overview

Players will need to find three piles of dead ghosts throughout the dungeon. Interacting with each one will give players a ninety-second Vestige of Light buff timer. Once acquired, they must find a Hive Statue to deposit into. If deposited correctly, a Lucent Acolyte named Thul-Ar, Acolyte of Nokris, spawns.

Above Thul-Ar’s head is a Hive symbol. You should note which symbol it is. Three major Hive enemies will spawn with symbols next to them. Find the one that matches the one above Thul-Ar and kill it. If you choose correctly, a Hive energy pool spawns. The pool allows you to break Thul Ar’s shield and deal damage. If you choose incorrectly, the process will reset. The process remains the same for all Ghost piles.

Ghost Pile 1

The first Ghost pile is at the beginning of the dungeon before you start the first encounter. From the spawn point, head to the rock formation ahead of you and make a right. You should find fallen branches over a hole. Head inside to the end of the path to find the Ghost pile.

Once you have Vestige of Light, backtrack outside. Head to your right, close to the beginning of the first encounter, and you should find the Statue. You can always search for the Statue before you begin. Complete the necessary steps to remove a portion of Thul-Ar’s health.

Ghost Pile 2

The second Ghost pile is in the first traversal section of the dungeon. After you find the first secret chest, you should see the Statue, where you must drop the Vestige. Proceed further underwater until you reach a room with Thrall and Knights. The Ghost pile is on the right side of the room.

Head back the way you came to reach the Statue. The section is tricky to go backward, so you might want to get some practice in beforehand. As before, complete the necessary steps and damage Thul-Ar.

Ghost Pile 3

After you complete the Ecthar encounter, make your way to Simmumah. Before crossing the large chasm, the Ghost pile is on your right. From here, you must cross the chasm to the opposite side of the area. Instead of dropping to the boss arena, head upwards. Here, you will find the Statue where you need to deposit.

Find the correct symbol, defeat Thul-Ar, and crush his Ghost to earn The Navigator Catalyst. Once you crush Thul-Ar’s Ghost, a chest will spawn at the back of the Upper Floor. Open the chest for your reward. Now you have The Navigator Catalyst. Kill 700 enemies with The Navigator to earn the ability to create Grapple Tangles.
