The Edge of Fate release is around the corner for Destiny 2. As we get closer, it becomes imperative that players begin their preparation for the new expansion. What your goals are for the Edge of Fate will determine what you should and should not prepare in the next few weeks. Get your checklists and notepads out because we are nearing the beginning of a new Destiny 2 Saga.
Vault cleaning is a topic that arises with every new expansion. It is likely even more vital this year than it has been in recent times. The new legendary gear systems will make some weapons and armor obsolete. Weapons, for the most part, will remain powerful during the Edge of Fate. If there is a weapon you use currently, you will continue to use it in the Edge of Fate.
Legendary Armor
Before you delete all of your legendary armor, take these aspects into account. At the beginning of the Edge of Fate, it will take time for us to acquire armor that eclipses what we are using now. Likely, we will only get tier-five armor after the Edge of Fate raid. Any armor that you use in your builds is safe to keep. If the armor is 1900, you probably will never use it again, so it is safe to dismantle.
However, keep an eye on the spikes in your unused armor. With the introduction of the Edge of Fate, we are getting new stats. You might want armor with spikes in things like Mobility for the new Weapons stat. We are also only getting six armor types, so there is not going to be every stat duo you can aim to get spikes for.
Crafted Weapons
If there is a crafted weapon in your vault that you do not use, dismantle it. You can always craft it again if it becomes meta. The only exceptions to this are crafted weapons you have an attachment to or ones that you have spent Ascendant Alloys on.
Exotic Armor
Our Exotics are not getting converted to the tier system, so they will all be valuable in the Edge of Fate. One of each Exotic is needed. The others can be safely dismantled. You may want to farm for specific rolls, given the stat changes, but other than that, you can keep it simple.
Legendary and Exotic Class Items
Our current legendary Class Items are not getting moved to the new stat system, so only keep one for your builds. Exotic Class Items, on the other hand, will receive stats based on the perks on them, meaning keep the Exotic Class Items you use. Some players may want to keep one of each perk roll, but it is not required since most are unlikely to be useful for most players.
Raid Armor
It is unclear what is happening with raid armor in the Edge of Fate. The hope is that Bungie will update the armor sets for the raids themselves. At the moment, raid armor is predominantly for niche situations like low-man raids. For the average player, you will not need to keep raid armor, save for the Garden of Salvation.
The Episodic weapons are leaving at the beginning of the Edge of Fate. If there is any weapon you want to acquire, now is the time to do so. Fortunately for Episode: Echoes, all those weapons are craftable. The rest of the episodic weapons are not. The ideal weapons and perks for those weapons you should focus on will come in a later article.
The Rite of the Nine weapons are not staying, so ensure you get the ones you want before they go away. At the beginning of the next reset, all dungeons will become available. Check out our god roll guides for all of those weapons.
Adept weapons are going away with the Edge of Fate, so if there are any weapons you want to farm, here is the schedule for Nightfalls and Trials of Osiris:
Nightfalls
Trials of Osiris
Ensure that you claim all the materials on the Season Pass that you can. There are ways to claim rewards from older Season Passes. A quick Google search will help you find those means. Keep in mind that doing so is an unofficial way to claim these rewards.
Bounty prepping is only vital for players who want a leg up heading into the Edge of Fate raid. With the short turnover time, Day One Raiders will need a head start. Focus on filling up your bounty inventory with weeklies for a maximum reward. Do not use repeatable bounties, as they give the least amount of XP. Do not keep Episodic bounties since they do not carry over. There may be changes to bounties for the Edge of Fate. In an X post, dmg stated that more information on bounties will come in a future TWID.
