Destiny 2 Learnings: The Portal and Power

For new and returning Guardians to Destiny 2, the Portal is imperative to your progression. The power grind system in the Edge of Fate relies heavily on the Portal. From Solo Ops to the Crucible, there are activities for all types of players to enjoy. Bungie has plans to add more features to the Porta in the future. If you feel it is scarce at the moment, more lies in wait.

Destiny 2 Portal

The Portal is the main page for activities in Destiny 2. Its function replaces the Director (although that page is still there, renamed to World). When you click on the Portal, you will see these elements:

  • Latest Expansion – Where you can find all the new expansion activities. For the Edge of Fate, it takes you to the Kepler destination, or will launch you into the first mission if you have not started the campaign yet.
  • Playlist Activities – Four types of activities for players to choose from
    • Solo
    • Fireteam
    • Pinnacle
    • Crucible
  • Seasonal Hub – Daily and Weekly Challenges to complete to earn progress on Weekly Track Rewards
    • Will have future events like Heavy Metal and Conquests
  • Tower – Takes you to the Destiny 2 Tower.
  • The Desert Perpetual Raid – The launch for the Edge of Fate raid that is coming out on July 19th.

While you can grind loot from Kepler, the most efficient way to level up is through the Portal. You have four types to choose from in Destiny 2.

  • Solo Ops
    • 5-10 Minute Activities
    • Completed Solo
    • Low Rewards
  • Fireteam Ops
    • 10-15 Minute Activities
    • Maximum of Three Players
    • Matchmade and Non-Matchmade
    • Middling Rewards
  • Pinnacle Ops
    • 20-40 Minute Activities
    • Maximum of Three Players
    • Non-Matchmade
    • High Rewards
  • Crucible Ops
    • 5-15 Minutes
    • 3v3 or 6v6
    • Matchmade
    • Middling Rewards

Players can choose the activity they want to progress with. Pinnacle Ops gives the most loot, but the activities are longer and do not have matchmaking. More content is getting added to the Portal in the future. The Coil is an activity confirmed for a future update. Completing an activity will always grant a Power increase. The difficulty will alter the power increase amount and gear tier. Some activities give guaranteed weapons or armor, or bonus drops on completing the activity. All of this information is available to you on each activity.

Modifiers

In the Edge of Fate, players can customize the difficulty of activities. You can add Banes, Modifiers like Threats, or Boons like Surges. Depending on what you add, it will increase or decrease the difficulty of the activity you do. The higher difficulty gives you better rewards. If you want the most out of your grind, always ensure your rewards are set to A tier.
