The Long Arm Scout Rifle became one of the most popular weapons in Destiny 2 with the release of the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. The reason? It is similar to the Exotic Scout Rifle, Dead Man’s Tale. Since those days, it has fallen out of favor with the Destiny 2 community, and now, with it receiving a perk refresh, it might creep back into the player’s favor.

Destiny 2 Long Arm Overview

Long Arm is an Aggressive Frame Arc Scout Rifle. It is the first Legendary Scout Rifle of its kind, taking inspiration from Dead Man’s Tale. As an Arc weapon, it has the potential to succeed during Episode Heresy with the arc-focused artifact perks. Unfortunately, being a Scout Rifle, it will not dominate the meta. It will have its place in High-End PvE content like Grandmaster Nightfalls and PvP matches.

Long Arm has twelve perks between the two columns. The left-column perks are Dual Loader, Hip-Fire Grip, Lone Wolf, Rapid Hit, Recycled Energy, and Subsistence. The right column has Dragonfly, Explosive Payload, Keep Away, Precision Instrument, Redirection, and Rolling Storm.

PvE God Roll

Scout Rifles are not ad-clear-centric weapons. Their slow rate of fire makes it take longer to deal with large groups of enemies. However, due to its range and high damage per shot, it excels in content like Grandmaster Nightfalls. Because of this, the best perk for the Scout Rifle in the left column is Rapid Hit. Rapid precision hits are easy to land, so you will have increased reload speed and stability. Dual Loader is another consideration, but the reload speed from Rapid Hit outpaces Dual Loader.

While Rolling Storm seems like the best option in the right column, it rarely gains a significant advantage over Explosive Payload or Precision Instrument, which have a higher damage increase. Explosive Payload is a consistent extra damage source, while Precision Instrument has a higher damage cap, so the one you choose is player preference.

PvP God Roll

Long Arm shines the best in PvP, given the range you can play at with it. While Scout Rifles will not succeed on every map, they have the potential to frustrate players on maps with long sightlines. The left column’s best perk is Lone Wolf. The additional aim assist primarily enables Guardians to succeed at taking down targets. The Airborne Effectiveness helps with airborne strategies as well.

The clear winner in the right column is Explosive Payload. The flinch on Guardians will make it so your opponents will have a strenuous task fighting back against you long-range. Precision Instrument might increase your time to kill, but the flinch is often better in your gunfights.

Acquiring Long Arm

The Long Arm Scout Rifle drops from the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. The first, final, and bonus chests can drop the Scout Rifle. Players can also try their luck at the Third Spire chest to acquire a Long Arm. Attuning to the weapon will also grant players a higher chance of finding Long Arm from their drops. Lastly, the Scout Rifle appears in four variations: Base, Base Shiny, Adept, and Adept Shiny. The Adept versions can only drop from Ultimatum mode and the Third Spire Chest. Good luck in your hunt, Guardians!
