The Rite of the Nine started well, with mostly positive feedback in the first week. However, the Destiny 2 community felt betrayed yesterday when they logged in to the game after the newest update. Players expected to see the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon in rotation this week, but were alarmed to find out the rotation had not changed, and it is still Spire of the Watcher.

Destiny 2 Rite of the Nine Dungeons on Three-Week Rotation

Weekly rotations in Destiny 2 are a familiar feature. Nightfalls, featured dungeons and raids, the curse week in Dreaming City, and more all function weekly. With the Rite of the Nine Livestream and expecting the dungeons to follow the same rotations, players were shocked to find out Spire of the Watcher is still on rotation this week. It is not the end of the world that the dungeon is on rotation again.

Ultimately, each dungeon is on rotation for four weeks. It is the featured dungeon for three weeks in a row, and one alongside all three dungeons in the final week before the Edge of Fate. However, the lack of communication regarding this aspect is the predominant issue the Destiny 2 community has this week. Players expected Ghosts of the Deep, and Bungie did not communicate that Spire of the Watcher would remain for two more weeks in Destiny 2.

Global Community Lead Responds to Community Outrage

The Global Community Lead for Destiny 2, dmg04, responded on X regarding the Rite of the Nine miscommunications. He stated the team would be better at communicating information for the Edge of Fate and would consider the feedback the community had given. He also confirmed that each dungeon will be on a three-week rotation, and the final week will see all dungeons as playable. His most important point is that players must not hesitate to give feedback on issues, especially regarding the Rite of Nine, in the coming weeks, for the team to do the best possible job for the Edge of Fate expansion.

What is New in Spire of the Watcher

For the players upset that it is Spire of the Watcher again this week, there is at least one reason to enter the dungeon. Each week will have new quests for players to complete, each with unique rewards. Last week’s quest awarded a Holofoil/Shiny Long Arm. Players can earn the Holofoil version of Liminal Vigil this week. An additional quest will grant players a choice between the Hierarchy of Needs (Spire of the Watcher exotic), The Navigator (Ghosts of the Deep exotic), and the Gjallahorn Catalyst (Grasp of Avarice Exotic). Most players will have these already, but this is a way for players who do not own the dungeons to get them for free.

It has caused some distress in the community, with the community saying players should not be gifted exotics in this way. Given that the exotics have been available to players for a considerable time now, there is no reason to keep them gated to players. Players should remember that each update will have new quests, so be ready to complete those for additional rewards.
