The REPO devs at Semiwork start their new devlog with an apology for how long the new update is taking to go into effect—but we’re not here for apologies. We’re here for the goodies they have in store for us. Apologies are fine, but they don’t feed the masses who require the unmitigated chaos that is the REPO game. Let’s see what they’ve added to determine whether or not we accept the apology.

Reworked Physics & New Weapons

First: the physics has been reworked! Yeah, if you decided to go the route of the strength upgrades and noticed that wibbly-wobbly visual as you carried items, that is no longer the case! You may now safely carry any and all items without the added nerve-wracking stress of hoping the tremors don’t knock them into other objects. This also applies to any weapons—ranged or melee—they no longer wobble. So, no fear in that regard.

Speaking of weapons! They’ve answered the call and incorporated a new one into the game—a Photon Blaster. Or, as the devs like to call it, the Handheld Portable Cart Laser. Honestly, they should have stuck with that name. It might be a little wordy, but it sounds way more fun (in our honest opinion). No matter which name we officially get, you know what it does—and we’re pretty sure players will be having the grandest of times causing destruction and mayhem on their REPO business.

The question is: how strong is it? It’s strong enough to blast away your companions if the need arises—or if you’re just looking for fun. But is it strong enough to take out some of the big bads by itself? And in that case, is there a mechanic that involves either a cooldown or something like an overcharge that prevents continuous blasting? Because it sounds a little OP when dealing with enemies. Or maybe it’ll just cost a ton of cash.

New Bridge Mechanic

As much as we love watching the imaginations of REPO players and streamers try to get from one section to another—jumping or throwing each other across the abyss—Semiwork has implemented a Phase Bridge.

Once activated, this object can extend in length (though the limitations aren’t really shown in the update, except the battery life). It looks like it can stretch a good bit, so now those hard-to-access or previously inaccessible areas are ripe for the picking.

There’s a question with this feature: is there going to be a weight or distance limit before the Phase Bridge malfunctions and you lose the ability to cross? Well, the devs sparked a challenge to the players, saying they can’t wait to see how you break the game using the Phase Bridge. So that kind of answers that question! At the moment, there seems to be no limitations—except chaos.

New Upgrades

They’re now offering team discounts on health packs and energy crystals—something that’s been talked about before. They also worked on energy balancing.

But wait, did someone say new upgrade? Well, even if you didn’t, the devs gave it to us. It’s called the Tumble Wings! When you acquire this upgrade and jump (and possibly tumble—this is just from what was shown in the dev vlog), you can now deploy a set of wings that look like they can slow your descent as you tumble to the ground. It doesn’t grant full flying capabilities, but it’s a fun mechanic.

We also remember several players asking for a stamina recharge while crouching under objects. Apparently, the devs had the same idea—because that’s now implemented! When crouching, you’ll now regenerate stamina. Strategy just got more interesting. This is also an upgrade you’ll have to buy from the Rest Stop. Hey, nothing in this world is free!

Final Thoughts

And the best part? If you’re part of the REPO open beta, you can already use all of these features right now.

Semiwork admitted that content had been lacking. With the increased popularity of REPO (which they honestly didn’t expect to blow up this much), they found themselves in a bit of a pickle. As you know, Semiwork is a small studio with limited staff. They had to juggle administrative paperwork, hack-proofing the game, fixing bugs and glitches, and everything in between.

But it looks like they’ve got a handle on that now and can focus on making more content. And you know what that means? Future updates probably won’t take quite as long as this one did. Kudos to Semiwork. Even though this one is taking a minute to implement, they’re going at a steady pace and hitting all the markers for change in the open beta.
