The official trailer for Indigo Park Chapter 2 was released earlier today, as part of a celebration of the anniversary of Chapter 1. It’s only a minute long, with no gameplay or dialogue, but there’s still plenty to analyze and dissect. While we wait for more Chapter 2 news, let’s dive into Finley’s Oceanic Odyssey and see what things the trailer has in store.

As we speculated from the way Chapter 1 left off, Indigo Park Chapter 2 will (at least in part) be taking place in the Oceanic Odyssey exhibit. Much like the sections of the park seen in Chapter 1, the exhibit is very overgrown, enough so that trees have had time to grow. The first shot of the trailer shows water dripping onto the floor and forming a puddle, which implies that there are some sections of the exhibit so overgrown that they’re starting to leak. Perhaps this means that the exhibit has become flooded since the park was abandoned.
Cardboard cutouts of Lloyd and Finley can be seen in a few of the shots, some of which are accompanied by information panels. This brings to mind the many cardboard cutouts that can be seen in the Poppy Playtime series, while also harkening to the aquarium inspiration behind Oceanic Odyssey. One of the shots of the trailer shows a wall with a printed logo that reads “Indigo Wildlife Initiative”, which could potentially be another similarity to Poppy Playtime – could the Wildlife Initiative be where the animals for the live mascots came from?
A cute easter egg in the trailer is that one of Rambley’s many screens is placed in front of the Otter exhibit, as a reference to Rambley’s voice actor, who is known online as OtterBoyVA. Though much more sinister is the fact that each animal exhibit is conspicuously empty. Whether it’s koi fish, penguins, or indeed otters, no living animals are seen until Finley makes his appearance. It’s left up to the viewer’s imagination whether the animals simply died because of the park being abandoned or whether Finley played a role in their disappearance.
We got a brief glimpse of the monstrous version of Finley at the very end of Indigo Park Chapter 1, though, due to it being such a short glimpse, the model was fairly simple. The version shown in today’s trailer, however, is much more detailed. It’s a far cry from the friendly and shy appearance of his cardboard cutout, with its leathery skin, torn fins, and thick yellowed fangs. Much like Mollie’s monstrous version in Chapter 1, this version of Finley shows no signs of being a character with a personality.
The trailer ends shortly after Finley’s re-introduction, showing the Indigo Park logo, followed by text stating that Chapter 2 is in development. As of right now, Chapter 2 doesn’t have a subtitle or a release date. The series’ creator and lead developer, Mason “UniqueGeese” Myers, has stated that the trailer being shared was to showcase some of what he and the development team have been working on for the past year. He has also stated that there will be a Chapter 2-related reveal at the MomoCon 2025 panel called “Welcome to Indigo Park”, which he plans to make into a video after the fact.
Myers has also previously stated that the plan is for Indigo Park Chapter 2 to be released sometime in 2025. However, he has also said on many occasions that he and the development team do not want to rush this series. In a Kickstarter update on Friday, Myers shared that the voice acting was around 70% complete, with environments and models also steadily making progress. With Chapter 1’s announcement trailer coming 10 months before the game’s release, there is a possibility of Chapter 2 releasing next year rather than this year.
For now, however, discussion of Chapter 2’s release date is purely speculative. In the Friday Kickstarter update, Myers affirmed that he will share the release date once he knows it. His Twitter/X account (@UniqueGeese) and the games’ official Discord server (which is linked in the description of Chapter 2’s trailer) are the best places to see any Indigo Park-related announcements as soon as they come.
While the Indigo Park Chapter 2 trailer is fairly short and contains no gameplay footage, from a visual standpoint, it does look like a significant improvement from Chapter 1. The environments are detailed and eerie, its overgrowth bringing to mind the state of Aperture Science in the early portion of Portal 2, and the updated model for Finley is suitably threatening and vicious. Chapter 1 did receive some criticism for its simplistic gameplay, perhaps owing in part to it being the introduction to the game. However, it would be nice for Chapter 2’s gameplay to be less simplistic and include other mechanics.
It is also interesting that Lloyd has a cardboard cutout in Finley’s exhibit, potentially bolstering a fan theory that posits Lloyd was the park’s main mascot before Rambley was introduced. Could this be part of the strained relationship between the two characters? How much more of the story behind the park’s closure will Chapter 2 reveal? Will Chapter 2 also include an arcade cabinet that potentially hints at the backstory behind the abandoned park? Total Apex Gaming will continue to cover Chapter 2 and any news related to it, so stay tuned and be sure to check back here for any other Indigo Park news.
