Dying Light is a survival horror game where you parkour through a zombie-infested world, fighting infected and regular people alike. The series currently has 2 games under its belt, with a 3rd game set to release tomorrow. It has been 10 years since the first game, so what’s happened in this apocalyptic world so far? Here’s the full story of Dying Light for curious fans of the series, excited about the release of the new game.

Dying Light

In the first Dying Light game, we followed the story of Kyle Crane, an undercover agent sent to the city of Harran, to infiltrate the quarantine zone of the city and retrieve data that could potentially lead to a cure for the outbreak virus. In this game, Kyle becomes infected as we fight various mutated infected while uncovering betrayals among different characters. Though the goal was to be extracted after completing the mission, Kyle decides to stay in Harran to help survivors after defeating the main antagonist, Rais, which ends the first installment of the series.

Dying Light 2 switches things up by setting the story 22 years after the events of the first Dying Light,  following the story of Aiden Caldwell, a Pilgrim infected with the THV virus, traversing through the city of Villedor, searching for his lost sister Mia. In this game, because Aiden is infected, the game plays with this fact by giving the main protagonist powers to battle the infected.

Throughout the story, we find out that Aiden, apart from being infected, was experimented on by a mysterious group, which is the reason he can remain human while being infected. This game also introduces the ability to make choices that will affect the outcome of the game’s ending. For instance, the end has you choose between two characters to save, and depending on which character you save, the ending will change as well. At the end, Aiden eventually leaves the city of Villedor, continuing his journey as a Pilgrim.

Dying Light: The Beast and What We Know

With this new game releasing tomorrow, Dying Light: The Beast sees the return of Kyle Crane, the main protagonist in the first game. In this game, he is way more hardened, having been kidnapped and experimented on by someone named the Baron. On a quest for revenge, the experiments have changed Kyle both physically and mentally, and he finds himself with amazing powers, though he is fast losing his humanity.

With the release of a preview of the game at Gamescom, players have likened this installment to the first game, saying it’s a return to form for the game, after feeling disappointment from Dying Light 2. Players and fans of the series are pretty excited to play as Kyle once again, and I’m honestly excited to see how this story will unfold. Dying Light: The Beast is set to release tomorrow, and I can’t wait to not only play the game but write a review on it as well.
